Job Summary
Underwrite and negotiate profitable surety business for small to mid-commercial accounts while minimizing risk through thorough financial, technical, and management evaluations. Manage the assigned book of business by developing relationships with agents and brokers, analyzing quarterly statements and work-in-progress data to monitor financial positions. Perform primary credit underwriting, make decisions on new and existing accounts, and assess business continuity arrangements and funding mechanisms. Coordinate underwriting issues with Home Office and mentor junior staff as needed. This role supports Liberty Mutual Surety's global fronting relationships across 60 countries, serving construction firms, manufacturers, and commercial enterprises.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Business
- 2.5 years of surety UW experience
- 3 or more years of surety UW experience
- other related experience
- analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks
- competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process
- proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
- comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues
- ability to define and implement necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows
- track record of developing and underwriting profitable Surety business
- prepared to come into the office two days/week
