Job Summary
Underwrite and negotiate profitable surety business for small to mid-commercial accounts, conducting thorough financial, technical, and management assessments to minimize risk. Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on static and trend bases, monitor risk through quarterly statements, and investigate underwriting and workflow issues within established procedures. Manage the assigned book of business by developing strong relationships with agents and brokers, identifying product line opportunities, and assisting in marketing plans. Coordinate complex account issues with Home Office Underwriters and Field Management, while mentoring junior staff as needed. Requires 2.5+ years of surety underwriting experience and 50% travel; on-site presence required two days weekly if within 50 miles of a GRS office.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Business
- 2.5 years of surety UW experience
- 3 or more years of surety UW experience
- other related experience
- analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks
- competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process
- proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
- comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues
- ability to define and implement necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows
- track record of developing and underwriting profitable Surety business
- 50% travel
