Job Summary
Senior Substation Physical Engineer responsible for executing substation physical design projects for electric utilities (12kV–500kV). Role involves reading/designing substation drawings (one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation, grounding), creating and checking bills of materials, site visits, and collaboration with a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians. Requires strong communication, ability to meet deadlines, willingness to travel to project sites and Portland, OR, and hybrid/remote work options with in-office days in Portland, San Diego, or Honolulu. Preferred qualifications include EIT/PE, PMP, and experience with grounding/lightning studies and WinIGS/CDEGS; Master’s degree is noted as an additional credential option. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related degree
- Experience 4+ years in substation physical design (Senior level) or 8+ years for Lead level
- Ability to travel to project/client sites and Portland, OR office as needed
- EIT/PE certification or eligibility (preferred)
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency in substation drawings (one-line, three-line, plan-section) and BOM creation
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies
- CAD proficiency and ability to work in a design-team environment
