Job Summary
Senior Substation Engineer leading electrical design for medium/high voltage substations from concept through construction. Responsible for equipment specification, single-line development, protection and control design, layout optimization, and compliance with NEC/NESC/IEEE standards. Will mentor engineers, support construction activities, develop technical reports and design packages, and contribute to business development and proposals. Hybrid work arrangement in Syracuse or Binghamton, NY, with a focus on grid modernization, renewable integration, and utility-scale infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; Master's degree a plus
- 8+ years of progressive experience in substation engineering and design
- Strong working knowledge of medium and high voltage equipment, substation layout, protection and control systems, and applicable industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, ANSI/IEEE)
- Proficiency in engineering calculation software for short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash analysis (ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower)
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or Microstation for substation design and documentation
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, or active pursuit of licensure, is strongly preferred
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Experience with utility interconnection requirements and standards a plus
- Substation Protection Engineering or Substation Control and Integration experience highly valued
