Job Summary
Senior Story Desk Editor leading daypart editorial direction, coordinating breaking news and multi-platform coverage for a digital-first newsroom. Acts as a hub within the Story Management Desk to plan, produce and curate stories across streaming, digital, social and broadcast platforms; collaborates with MSJs, producers and photojournalists to deliver accurate, engaging content and to optimize coverage using audience data and performance metrics. Responsibilities include leading a team during an assigned daypart, shaping 24/7 coverage, coordinating with reporters and producers, creating and publishing digital content, and shaping editorial strategy with a focus on timely, ethical storytelling across vertical formats and platforms. Strong writing/editing skills, decisive editorial judgment under tight deadlines, and experience with newsroom systems are required, along with flexibility to work varied shifts and weekends. The role emphasizes leadership, newsroom collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple platforms and distribution channels while maintaining journalistic standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production or related role
- Prior experience leading newsroom teams and/or demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with peers
- Strong news judgment and the ability to make fast, sound editorial decisions under pressure
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce accurate and compelling content quickly
- Experience with newsroom systems and content management tools
- Organizational skills to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset that thrives in a team environment
- Willingness to work early, late or weekend shifts as assigned
- Remote availability on assigned weekends during a regular on-call rotation
