Job Summary
Senior Staff Data Engineer focused on Data Stewardship. You will define the multi-year vision for Data Governance and Data Quality, architect data ecosystems that support real-time and AI-driven requirements, and serve as a primary consultant to executive leadership on governance and compliance throughout the data product lifecycle. You will lead cross-functional initiatives with Infosec, Legal, and Privacy, set best practices and tooling to maintain high-quality data autonomously, mentor Senior and Staff engineers, and influence product strategy. Required expertise includes 12+ years in leading large-scale data initiatives, system design at scale in complex environments, and deep Tech Stack mastery in Java/Scala/Spark (S3, Iceberg) with strong SQL capabilities. The role may be remote within the US and may include occasional office work; base pay ranges from $248,000 to $310,000 USD, with potential for bonus/equity/benefits.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of industry experience
- leadership experience
- designing and evolving complex data ecosystems
- experience influencing product and business strategy using data integrity as a competitive advantage
- deep expertise in Java/Scala/Spark with knowledge of S3 and Iceberg
- strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL
- ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-functional teams
- experience with data governance and data quality across an engineering organization
- experience navigating regulatory environments (e.g., GDPR, AI Act) and translating into engineering requirements
