Senior Staff Attorney - Open Records / Litigation

Job Summary
Respond to records requests under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law and serve as the Open Records Officer. Provide legal advice on open records, regulatory, litigation, municipal, energy, and other matters, preparing related documents and representing PGW in negotiations and court actions. Analyze federal, state, and local statutes to determine application to company policies, advise management on proposed changes, and consult with other departments. Coordinate matters with outside law firms and handle complex cases with greater potential liability. Assist in staff development by reviewing work, determining suitability for assignments, and identifying training needs. Full-time on-site role with potential hybrid eligibility after six months for Pennsylvania residents.
Required Qualifications
- Law school graduate with an LLB or JD degree
- Admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar
- 5 or more years of experience working with laws and regulations related to open records, litigation, commercial, energy, and/or regulatory law
- Analytical and communication skills to interpret and translate complex legal terms into written and verbal forms that are easily understood by all levels of staff
- Leadership ability with a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions to provide guidance to lower-level peer group and assist Legal Department in identifying the best people for special assignments and advancement
- Full time role on site at Philadelphia Gas Works
- Job will often require 5 days per week on site
Desired Qualifications
- Practice before governmental/regulatory agencies such as the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records, PUC, Gas Commission, City of Philadelphia, FERC, City Council, etc.
