Job Summary
Senior Staff AI Engineer to lead the Edge AI Applications Lab in Columbia, MD. Head R&D, PoC and AI product demo projects involving physical hardware builds for microcontroller deployment of tiny AI models. Responsible for managing the lab space and equipment, coordinating cross-BU and customer support, and overseeing fabrication of hardware setups and data collection for model development and validation. Requires hands-on leadership of projects and teams, collaboration with customers and product teams, and strong expertise in edge AI, embedded ML, sensors, and real-time processing. Masters/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with 7-12 years of experience; skilled in Python, MATLAB, C, DSP, and deploying AI on MCUs; capable of physical prototyping, lab management, and mentoring engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
- 7-12 years career experience
- Understanding of AI/ML algorithms with experience deploying models on MCUs
- Practical fabrication of prototype systems including physical, microelectronic, and sensor elements
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and collaborating across cross-functional groups
- Broad familiarity with sensors and their placement in practical systems (including audio, electrical, accelerometers)
- Experience with large high-frequency sensor datasets (audio, electrical, motor control, accel) including debugging and ML Ops
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and C for real-time edge computing and embedded systems
- Experience managing projects, lab facilities, and scheduling in an industrial laboratory setting
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership
- Staying current with emerging technologies in AI, embedded ML, and signal processing
