Job Summary
Senior Staff Accountant role in a Maine nonprofit Finance Department. Responsibilities include producing accurate program financial and allocation reports, analyzing financial information and advising on irregularities; participating in monthly management reviews of financial reports; preparing monthly journal entries; maintaining fixed assets and processing monthly depreciation; verifying programmatic transactions and performing month-end reconciliations; supporting fund accounting software and assisting staff; partnering with the Manager to prepare for annual audits and ensuring timely filing of financial and performance reports. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or five to seven years of commensurate experience may be substituted for college training
- Pre-employment SBI, DMV, Maine Sex Offender Registry, DHHS, fraud, and federal debarment background checks must be completed upon offer of hire and as a condition of employment
- Competency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of accounting software; willingness to accept the challenge of a hectic pace; ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision; keep accurate, neat records; adapt to changing State and Federal regulations; and actively participate in the creative changes which occur; ability to function autonomously and as part of a team.
