Job Summary
Senior HIMS Specialist role focusing on processing medical information requests with a strong emphasis on HIPAA compliance and authorization management. Applies broad knowledge of EHR systems (Epic) to verify authorizations, request historical medical records, and prepare responses for information requests. Conducts QA monitoring of HIMS Specialists, reports findings to the HIMS Supervisor, and provides ad-hoc project support. Acts as a resource for training new or contract staff and students in quality-focused, professional communication. Prefer ROI experience and customer service background. Supports patient safety and quality care by ensuring accurate health information and regulatory compliance across paper and electronic records, coordinating with clinicians to ensure required documentation is present, and maintaining privacy standards. The position is hybrid, and the applicant must live within 100 miles driving distance to the Mayo Clinic campus. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- Broad knowledge of electronic health records (EHR), specifically Epic
- HIPAA compliance knowledge and when an authorization is needed before disclosing PHI
- Experience processing requests for medical information including customer service for walk-ins, mail processing, and correspondence
- Ability to verify authorizations and request historical medical records
- Quality assurance monitoring of HIMS Specialists and reporting findings to the HIMS Supervisor
- Experience training new or contract staff and students in a qualitative and effective manner
- Preferred ROI (release of information) experience and customer service experience
- Ability to work in a hybrid setup and reside within 100 miles driving distance to Mayo Clinic campus
