Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer (Windows/Desktop) will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML. You will define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development, drive accessibility efforts (UI Automation, accessibility APIs), collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders, and own the full lifecycle of features from conception to release and maintenance. The role emphasizes reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability, with opportunities to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and contribute to long-term product vision. The United States-based salary range for this role is 140,000-200,000 USD/year plus bonus and stock, and Speechify operates a 100% distributed workforce (no office).
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML; experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) is a plus
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed (.NET) and native code
- Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications with reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation) and commitment to accessible software
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or asynchronous programming
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
