Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer role in a fast-growing Australian fintech platform. You will design, build and improve complex platform features using Java and JVM-based technologies (including Groovy), contributing to technical design decisions, delivery ownership, production support, mentoring, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Engineering and Implementation teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing applications, and help elevate engineering standards across the team. The role emphasizes hands-on coding, architecture direction, code quality, testing practices, and successful delivery in a complex product environment. Office-based in Sydney CBD with 3 days per week onsite.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- At least 2 years in a senior or lead developer role
- Deep Java experience
- Experience with JVM languages such as Groovy
- Strong experience with frameworks such as Spring or Guice
- Strong ORM experience, ideally Hibernate or JPA
- Unit testing experience with tools such as JUnit and Mockito
- Strong understanding of SOLID principles, clean code and design patterns
- Experience building secure, scalable and high-performing applications
- Hands-on experience with build tools such as Ant, Maven or Gradle
- Experience with Git and ideally Mercurial
- CI/CD experience and a strong appreciation for reliable engineering practices
- Experience with application containers such as Tomcat, WildFly or JBoss
- SQL database experience across SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Oracle
- Integration experience across REST APIs, SOAP APIs and schema evolution tools such as Liquibase
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction
- A proactive, commercially aware mindset with a focus on customer and business value
