Senior Software Engineer (Shopify)

Job Summary
Own and evolve impact.com's Shopify integration, including Apps, Web Pixels, and platform extensions. Build reliable, privacy-compliant solutions that capture conversions and customer events while adapting to Shopify's evolving capabilities. Design the complete merchant installation experience with secure OAuth flows and automated onboarding. Maintain the Ruby on Rails application connecting Shopify with Impact's APIs and manage high-volume webhook consumers and data pipelines. Proactively handle API version upgrades, troubleshoot merchant-specific issues, and ensure production resilience. Identify new platform capabilities like Checkout Extensibility and influence the future direction of the Shopify ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- You've built production Shopify Apps, integrations or platform extensions and understand the Shopify ecosystem beyond storefront development
- You've built integrations between complex SaaS platforms and understand how to design reliable event-driven systems
- You're comfortable working with REST and GraphQL APIs, OAuth authentication, Webhooks, Rate limiting, Background processing, High-volume event pipelines
- You have experience building and maintaining production backend services
- You're comfortable working with modern JavaScript or TypeScript and understand how browser-based tracking technologies operate within Shopify's platform
- You think beyond individual features. You understand how changes to one system affect another and enjoy designing reusable, scalable solutions that work across thousands of merchants rather than solving one-off problems
Desired Qualifications
- Ruby on Rails experience is preferred, but we're equally interested in experienced Shopify engineers who have worked with technologies such as Node.js, Python, PHP or Java and are excited to work with Rails
