Senior Software Engineer - Security Libraries

Job Summary
Design, build, and own security integrations and detections (WAF, RASP, API Security, IAST, SCA) across .NET and Java libraries, taking projects from prototype to production-hardened deployment. Safely instrument thousands of applications in production while monitoring telemetry for timeouts, performance, and cost, then debug cross-system issues to drive down customer-facing problems. Shape the roadmap by defining OKRs, breaking features into parallel components, and driving RFCs for alignment with product, backend, and frontend teams. Mentor teammates to raise code quality and testing standards, representing Datadog in language and security communities.
Required Qualifications
- Expertise in at least one of .NET (C#) or Java
- Polyglot capability to contribute idiomatically across other libraries
- Strong software-engineering fundamentals
- Product-engineering mindset
- Experience building and shipping libraries or SDKs consumed by other developers
- Understanding of packaging, versioning, and backward compatibility
- Experience measuring and optimizing for performance and cost
- Operational maturity with accountability for production systems
- Clear communication in writing and in person
- Ability to drive alignment through RFCs and informal collaboration
- BS/MS/PhD in a STEM field or equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications
- Deep expertise across .NET or Java including familiarity with language runtime internals and instrumentation
- Familiarity with the JVM, bytecode instrumentation and Java agents
- Familiarity with the CLR/JIT/GC, IL rewriting, and DiagnosticSource/EventPipe in .NET
- A track record of shipping across several of the company's languages (Go, Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP, C/C++)
- An application security background including WAF, RASP, SAST/IAST/SCA, threat detection, or secure-by-design practices
- Experience with auto-instrumentation, APM/distributed tracing, or code telemetry and introspection
- A history of maintaining open-source projects with public projects or published packages
- Experience with AI-assisted developer tooling or agentic workflows
- A developer-experience or customer-support sensibility
