Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer on Upstart’s Core Pricing team to design and implement scalable, low-latency services translating ML underwriting outputs into real-time risk and profitability measures. Responsibilities include leading service design, collaborating with data scientists and product managers, driving architectural improvements for growth, mentoring engineers, ensuring pricing-engine reliability through testing and monitoring, and improving developer experience and observability. Required skills include Python (with some Java/Kotlin), building scalable APIs/microservices in AWS or GCP, and a track record of delivering complex engineering projects with a focus on scalability and performance.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Proficiency in Python; experience with Java or Kotlin or similar
- Ability to own and deliver complex multi-month projects
- Experience designing and building scalable APIs and microservices in cloud environments (AWS or GCP)
- Strong problem-solving for scalability, performance, and reliability
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience mentoring engineers
- Bias for action and ability to navigate ambiguity
