Senior Software Engineer (Java backend, Cloud architecture)

Job Summary
Design and deliver scalable, cloud-native Java services for InsuranceNow, focusing on integrations with third-party systems and horizontal scaling for Tier 1 and Tier 2 insurers. Lead architecture and development of secure, automated environments using Infrastructure as Code on AWS, while owning CI/CD pipelines and troubleshooting complex production issues across application and data layers. Collaborate with product managers and engineering leadership to evolve the product's next-generation cloud architecture, applying cloud-native concepts like zero-downtime deployments and blue/green releases. Mentor other engineers and improve secure SDLC practices within Guidewire's Product Development organization.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of overall software or infrastructure development experience
- at least 3 years building applications on cloud architectures
- Strong, hands-on experience with Java for backend application development
- object-oriented design and clean code practices
- Experience designing and building distributed systems and services
- microservices or event-driven architectures
- Practical experience with at least one major cloud provider
- AWS is highly preferred
- Azure or Google Cloud experience is also valuable
- Solid understanding of cloud-native concepts such as zero-downtime deployments
- blue/green or canary releases
- promotion of code from QA to staging to production
- Strong knowledge of relational and/or non-relational databases
- how to model, query, and tune them for scalable systems
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- experience with Chef, Ansible, or Puppet is also acceptable
- Demonstrated ability to design systems for scale, performance, reliability, and maintainability
- especially in multi-tenant SaaS environments
- Proven logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- ability to debug complex issues across multiple technical layers
- Experience owning and improving CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies
- Ability and desire to quickly learn new technologies

- Must be available for Bengaluru office
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building enterprise-grade integrations
- including APIs, events, and messaging-based systems
- Familiarity with API design (REST, event-based)
- experience consuming or exposing business/application events
- Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts
- e.g., SSO, OAuth, SAML, role-based access control
- Experience in the P&C insurance domain
- or other complex, highly regulated industries
