Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Forma's backend services powering the benefits platform, including APIs for account lifecycle, transactions (claims, reimbursements, contributions), and member management. Work across React/TypeScript/NestJS services, contribute to event-driven integrations using Google Pub/Sub, and ensure production readiness with on-call duties and observability (Datadog). Collaborate with product, ops, customer success, and other engineers to ship features that serve members and admins; participate in engineering standards, tooling, and processes; leverage AI tools thoughtfully within a high-growth fintech/HR-tech environment. Remote-first with California and broader US locations; benefit-rich environment with flexible PTO, parental leave, and home-office stipend.
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of professional backend experience
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript/NestJS
- Relational databases experience, PostgreSQL
- Event-driven architectures or messaging systems (Pub/Sub, Kafka, SQS/SNS) a strong plus
- Cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred, AWS/Azure acceptable)
- Kubernetes, Terraform, or CI/CD pipelines is a plus
- Observability tools experience (Datadog or similar)
- Experience at a growth-stage startup balancing speed and quality
- Fintech, benefits, or HR tech domain experience is a plus
- Frontend/backend collaboration skills
- On-call responsibilities and production ownership
