Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer to join the Shopify App team, building AI-native, customer-focused launches for retailers. Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to design high-quality, well-tested systems using TypeScript, Node, GraphQL and AWS serverless architectures; ship incremental value; apply AI coding tools as a default; own services in production with emphasis on availability, security, and observability; mentor peers and contribute to a blameless, inclusive team culture. The role emphasizes product-minded engineering, proactive design discussions, and shaping what to build rather than simply implementing a spec.
Required Qualifications
- Significant commercial software development experience using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks
- Strong experience designing and operating serverless architectures and cloud DevOps practices (preferably AWS)
- Product-minded engineering with ability to challenge briefs and shape work with PMs
- Track record of architectural decision-making with focus on resilience, security, and performance
- Fluent with AI coding tools in production; experience with agentic workflows or consumer-facing APIs/tools is a plus
- Strong commitment to clean code, automated testing, and engineering quality
- Experience pair programming, leading code reviews, mentoring teammates
- Comfort owning systems in production end-to-end (observability, performance, incident response) and delivering metrics
