Senior Software Engineer - Developer Experience (Golang, Python)

Job Summary
Design and implement complex infrastructure projects spanning multiple systems, driving them from initial design through stakeholder buy-in, testing, and rollout. Build developer-facing tools, automation, and self-service platforms that eliminate repetitive manual work and reduce dependency on platform teams. Develop monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tools to proactively surface issues, while partnering with engineering teams to translate business needs into scalable solutions. Share knowledge through documentation, tech talks, and mentorship, and participate in on-call rotation for critical platform services. Own end-to-end technical solutions that directly impact every engineer at Canva.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in Platform Engineering
- Solid programming experience in Python
- Solid programming experience in Go
- Proven track record of building and operating systems at scale
- Experience supporting large engineering organizations (1000+ engineers)
- Strong experience with AWS or GCP
- Thorough Kubernetes experience in production environments
- Built and maintained complex pipelines at scale (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Buildkite, etc.)
- Experience with Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools
- Implemented comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting
- Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
- This role is based in Sydney
