Senior Software Engineer (Calculations & Allocations)

Job Summary

Design and build the core calculation and allocation systems that underpin the platform's business logic layer. Lead complex, multi-month engineering initiatives from architecture through production deployment, developing highly configurable backend systems and proprietary expression languages. Own system architecture, schema design, and long-term platform evolution while ensuring correctness, auditability, and reliability across mission-critical financial infrastructure. Partner directly with executive leadership on technical strategy and collaborate through architecture reviews and technical mentorship.

Required Qualifications

  • 6–12 years of professional backend software engineering experience
  • Proven experience leading large, complex technical projects from architecture through production
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals with deep expertise in data modeling, schema design, and distributed systems
  • Experience building highly configurable platforms, business logic engines, or shared infrastructure
  • Experience working on systems where correctness, consistency, and auditability are essential
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another technical discipline, preferably from a top-tier university
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts and architectural decisions
  • High ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive technical initiatives

Desired Qualifications

  • Startup experience, ideally at Seed through Series C companies, with a strong preference for founding engineers or early technical hires
  • Experience building domain-specific languages (DSLs), formula engines, rule engines, workflow platforms, or orchestration systems
  • Previous experience as a founder or founding engineer
  • Background building financial infrastructure, accounting systems, or other correctness-critical software
  • Teaching assistant experience or a demonstrated passion for mentoring and technical collaboration
  • Startup experience building foundational platform architecture from the ground up
  • Strong system design skills with experience creating extensible platform primitives
  • Comfortable working directly with executive leadership in a highly collaborative environment
  • Interest in AI-assisted engineering workflows and developer productivity
