Senior Software Engineer - Banking Integration Platform
$200,700–$250,900 year
On-siteSan Francisco, California, United States
Job Summary
Build Mercury's integration with an FFIEC-approved bank core and payment networks, designing internal APIs that provide product teams simple interfaces to complex external systems. Handle messy integration realities including retries, failures, format mismatches, and downtime while owning monitoring, alerting, and recovery for critical connections. Build data pipelines that keep systems in sync with the bank core and partner with cross-functional teams to define clean boundaries and reliable contracts. Help shape the technical architecture of Mercury Bank as a technical leader and hands-on engineer.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend infrastructure and distributed systems at scale
- experience integrating modern distributed software systems with older, legacy infrastructure, preferably in a highly-regulated environment
- an understanding of how banks and banking systems work: accounts, transactions, ledgers, and the data models underneath
- Is comfortable with our tech stack (Haskell) or ready to learn
Desired Qualifications
- Is a product-minded engineer who thinks about the developers consuming your APIs, not just the systems you're connecting to
- Thrives in environments where you're building something new rather than maintaining something established
- Has strong and justified opinions about building reliable, maintainable systems
