Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer (Backend - Ruby on Rails) to join Zendesk’s core User-model work and help scale Zendesk’s support product. Responsibilities include taking ownership of features, designing and implementing end-to-end solutions, participating in technical discussions across global teams, breaking complex features into incremental tasks, balancing feature delivery with tech debt, leading pairing sessions and code reviews, collaborating with designers and product managers, triaging customer issues with Product Managers, providing production operational support, and driving observability, performance, reliability, and security improvements. Tech stack touches Ruby on Rails, MySQL/Redis, with frontend in React/TS (or Ember migrations), and adjacent services in Go and Java; services deployed with Kubernetes/Docker on AWS. This role is hybrid with 3 days in the Pune office; relocation to Pune is noted as part of the role’s setup.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails
- Experience with MySQL or similar
- Experience with Redis
- Experience delivering large-scale, high-quality web systems
- Strong English communication skills
- Ability to coach engineers and facilitate collaboration
- Experience with code reviews and pairing sessions
- Comfort with unfamiliar codebases and languages
- Experience with Kubernetes/Docker/AWS
Desired Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails
