Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Infrastructure

Job Summary

Conduct technical leadership by employing best practices to ensure the codebase remains well-tested and bug-free while driving decisions on software architecture, data modeling, and infrastructure that scale with the customer base. Guide the evolution of the backend tech stack and infrastructure, including storing, querying, and processing data for greater usage. Independently plan, architect, and implement features for the product team, focusing heavily on the backend and API while collaborating with frontend engineers. Build and maintain robust integrations with third-party platforms, ranging from modern to opaque systems, to serve as a leader in the team's integrations ecosystem. Shape company culture by recruiting, mentoring new team members, and cultivating a positive, inclusive work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of professional software experience
  • Meaningful backend experience
  • Exposure to full-stack work
  • Experience designing and scaling complex backend systems
  • Experience working with internal and external APIs
  • Experience shipping to real customers on a regular basis
  • Familiarity working with Node.js
  • Familiarity working with TypeScript
  • Familiarity working with GraphQL
  • Familiarity working with React
  • Familiarity working with Postgres
  • Ability to understand and break down complex problems
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Ability to make good decisions and forward progress even when requirements are unclear
  • Ability to engage thoughtfully and effectively with others
  • Ability to be an attentive and empathetic listener
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences
  • Ability to confidently break down tricky topics in writing and in person
  • Eagerness to learn
  • Comfort asking questions

  • Availability for in-person work in the San Francisco office
  • Availability for 4 days a week in-office collaboration
