Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer (AI) at Turaco; responsible for building production-grade software across the stack (Java, React, Postgres, AWS) using AI coding agents as a core part of daily workflow. Responsibilities include designing, building, testing, and shipping features; breaking work into AI-executable tasks with rigorous review; creating internal automations and agentic workflows; championing AI-native engineering practices; integrating third-party AI tools and APIs; translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions; mentoring engineers, improving team effectiveness, and producing technical documentation. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, 6+ years of professional software engineering, expert-level Java or JavaScript/TypeScript, demonstrated use of AI coding agents, strong fundamentals (design, APIs, testing, debugging, code review), experience integrating LLMs/AI APIs, AWS/CI/CD/containers/observability, ability to operate in a startup, and strong communication and leadership skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Expert-level programming ability in Java or JavaScript/TypeScript
- Demonstrated use of AI coding agents in day-to-day engineering work with concrete examples of impact
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: system design, APIs, testing, debugging, code review, and maintainable architecture
- Practical experience integrating LLMs or AI APIs into products or workflows (prompting, context management, RAG, agentic workflows)
- Strong experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), CI/CD, containers, observability, and modern delivery practices
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and moving quickly in startup environments
