Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer, AI for Ironclad's Squad Team. You will lead the design and delivery of high-priority AI initiatives across Ironclad, from early prototype through production launch, across multiple codebases and domains, partnering with product, design, and legal experts to turn customer needs into shipped product. You will ramp into new systems quickly, incubate AI product ideas (contract AI, agentic workflows, intelligent extraction, search, automation), and mentor other engineers while shaping how Ironclad builds with modern AI systems. The role requires strong backend and distributed systems fundamentals, experience with AI-powered features, familiarity with LLM patterns, a product-minded mindset, ownership, and collaboration. The position is hybrid with office attendance required at least twice weekly in San Francisco, CA; base salary range is $180,000 - $220,000 plus benefits and equity.
Required Qualifications
- Experience building AI-powered product features, platforms, or internal developer systems
- Strong software engineering fundamentals in backend and distributed systems
- Familiarity with modern LLM application patterns such as agentic workflows, retrieval, evals, tool use, and quality/error analysis
- Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and be productive in new codebases
- Strong product instinct and customer empathy
- Excellent collaboration and low ego; ability to influence beyond authority
