Job Summary
Senior Server Engineer II on Strava's Identity Engineering Team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services powering Strava's identity platform, including authentication, authorization, token lifecycle management, and account security. Partners with Product, Security, Trust & Safety, Legal, and Mobile/Web Engineering to build identity foundations for safety, privacy, and growth. Drives technical excellence, contributes architectural perspectives, leads discussions on security, performance, and scalability, and mentors fellow engineers to foster a collaborative, high-trust environment.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent in backend engineering
- Proficiency in at least one core backend language (Ruby, Java, Scala, Python, or Go) or ability to learn rapidly
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis, Cassandra) in production
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Experience with authentication/authorization and identity protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, WebAuthn) and account security systems
- Collaborative mindset, strong communication, and mentorship skills
