Job Summary

Develop and optimize electrochemical synthesis protocols for CMOS chip-based DNA synthesis workflows, integrating chip handling, hardware configuration, and software integration. Investigate surface functionalization strategies to improve synthesis efficiency and fidelity while operating NGS-based analytical pipelines for quality assessment. Collaborate with engineering and synthesis teams to build prototype testbeds, drive technology transfer to manufacturing, and maintain detailed records of experimental work. Present experimental plans and results at group and company-wide meetings to align with strategic objectives. This role supports Atlas Data Storage's R&D team focused on advancing semiconductor-based DNA synthesis platforms in South San Francisco.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Experience in a biotech or pharma R&D environment
  • Proven track record and proficiency in phosphoramidite oligonucleotide synthesis chemistry and platform development
  • Strong understanding of DNA chip technologies and synthetic biology applications
  • Hands-on experience with NGS workflows and data analysis
  • Familiarity with software scripting for synthesis automation
  • Demonstrated ability to participate cross-functional projects and collaborate across R&D and manufacturing teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
  • Must be able to move about the laboratory and office environment regularly
  • Must have fine motor skills and steady hands to handle delicate instruments, operate laboratory equipment, pipette accurately, and perform repetitive benchwork with precision
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read small print on labels, instrument displays, and computer monitors
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety goggles as required

Desired Qualifications

  • Experienced MS or BS candidates with significant relevant experience
  • Experience in oligonucleotide microarray or pool synthesis
  • Must be able to move about the laboratory and office environment regularly
