Job Summary
Independently perform routine and specialized in vivo procedures across small and large animal species, including behavior testing, cerebral spinal fluid collection, and imaging techniques like echocardiograms. Act as the primary technical supervisor for active research studies by developing execution plans, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and providing training to junior staff. Review and edit study protocols, maintain documentation, and develop Standard Operating Procedures to ensure strict adherence to USDA, GLP, and 21 CFR Part 58 regulations. Capture data electronically in a compliant system and serve as a subject matter expert for complex procedures. Full-time on-site presence required at the Discovery Labs location with potential weekend, holiday, and overnight travel.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of BS/BA degree in lab animal science related field (e.g. biology, pre-med, chemistry, lab animal)
- 8–10 years of direct experience in lab animal science preferred (minimum 5 years required)
- Proficiency with large and small animals
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, GLP, AAALAC)
- Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Self-directed individual with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, competing priorities under tight deadlines
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact with team members, clients, vendors and other third parties
- Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across various disciplines to ensure alignment
- Ability to use digital communication tools (video conferencing, chat platforms, etc.)
- Ability to accommodate evening, overnight or weekend travel, including potential extended trips to attend training, meetings, conduct fieldwork, or meet with clients
- This position requires full-time on-site presence at our Discovery Labs location

- Essential for Closure: This position may be required to go on-site during company closures to sustain the life and care of animals/biological materials
- Potential inclusion in weekend and/or holiday rotation
- Ability to distinguish between different colors (normal color vision)
- Ability to see clearly at various distances
- Adequate near vision for reading documents or lab equipment
- Ability to focus and maintain concentration in tasks for extended periods
- Ability to work in environments with varying light conditions
