Job Summary
Senior Scientist in Process Chemistry responsible for designing, planning, and executing multi-step experimental studies to develop safe, efficient, robust, and scalable processes. Independently use PAT and analytical tools (DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC, NMR, KF, PLM, XRPD) to obtain reaction understanding, interpret data, and scale chemistry operations. Collaborate cross-functionally to author development reports and support regulatory interactions (INDs, NDAs, annual reports) and patents. Transfer technology for GMP manufacturing and perform tech transfer to CMOs. Require a PhD in organic chemistry with 3+ years of pharma/biotech hands-on experience in new drug development, with a proven track record in solving process chemistry problems, mechanistic understanding, and strong written/oral communication. Salary anticipated at $175,000–$200,000 in South San Francisco, with location and hybrid work arrangement noted.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in organic chemistry
- at least 3 years of experience in the pharma/biotech industry in the field of new drug development (Senior Scientist level)
- experience in process development and scale-up for GMP manufacturing
- proven ability to design, plan, and execute multi-step experimental studies; safe, robust, scalable processes
- familiarity with PAT and analytical tools (DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC, NMR, KF, PLM, XRPD)
- ability to author development reports, regulatory submissions (INDs, NDAs) and patents
- strong communication skills for presenting results and coordinating cross-functional teams
- tech transfer experience to CMOs and GMP manufacture
- excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and data organization
