Job Summary

Senior Scientist I, Media Development at Just-Evotec leads media optimization to achieve titer, cell viability, and product quality targets across long-duration upstream processes. Oversees the Redmond media development laboratory and team (1–2 director reports), drives technology development and continuous improvement for cell culture media, and serves as a technical leader on early- and late-stage cross-functional development teams to influence project strategy with data-driven recommendations. Identifies cell culture risks, gaps, and opportunities to drive aligned solutions; transfers novel media formulations to Manufacturing and supports large-scale GMP media preparation protocols and deviations. Designs, executes, and analyzes complex media screening DoE experiments to identify media additives that improve cell viability and product quality, and guides program and platform decisions based on experimental results. Authors novel media formulations and documentation, transfers to Manufacturing, and supports GMP-wide media preparation deviations. Requires a degree in Biology, Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with 10+ years (BS), 8+ years (MS), or 3+ years (PhD) of relevant industry experience; includes mentorship of 1–2 scientists, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel to Seattle for training or experimental support. The role emphasizes building technology development strategy, translating goals into clear experimental roadmaps, and maintaining scientific rigor in a dynamic, data-driven environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Biology, Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with relevant industry experience (B.S. with 10+ years, M.S. with 8+ years, or Ph.D. with 3+ years)
  • Experience managing and coaching 1-2 scientists
  • Advanced knowledge of cell biology, cell culture media development, and related analytical equipment
  • Perfusion technology experience and late-stage process development/process characterization preferred
  • Experience with statistical design and analysis using JMP, R, or Python
  • Experience training machine learning models for optimizing high dimensional data sets preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to Seattle for training or experimental support
  • Ability to build technology development strategy and translate goals into experimental roadmaps
  • Ability to work in ambiguous, complex environments with evolving priorities
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs
