Job Summary
Senior Scientist I at AbbVie will join a multidisciplinary team focused on robust production CHO host cell lines to support clinical and commercial biologics. The role involves engineering CHO host cells using advanced gene-editing technologies to improve recombinant protein productivity and product quality, enabling accelerated pipeline development. Responsibilities include executing genetic engineering and characterization of CHO lines, identifying and applying advanced technologies (CRISPR-Cas9, Cas-Clover, NGS, Omics, bioinformatics, system biology, AI/ML, HT automation), conducting independent lab research and troubleshooting, writing and presenting technical reports, and collaborating with cell line development, analytics, purification, and bioinformatics teams to meet timelines. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a scientific field with significant related experience, strong cell culture experience, and proficiency in omics, flow cytometry/FACS, NGS, and related methods, along with excellent communication and leadership skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Scientific field
- Master’s Degree in Scientific field
- PhD in Scientific field
- 10 years of related work (Bachelor’s) OR 8 years (Master’s) OR 0-2 years (PhD)
- Strong background in cell and molecular biology
- Experience with cell culture and aseptic technique
- Experience with ‘omics, genetic engineering, flow cytometry, FACS, NGS, expression vector design, bioinformatics, systems biology, ML/AI
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments
