Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer (Monarch)
Job Summary
Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer to develop, implement, and test robotic algorithms (kinematics, dynamics, controls) for a medical robotics platform. Collaborates across Mechanical Engineering, Instruments & Accessories, Clinical Engineering, and Software Engineering to drive clinical performance of the robot and improve patient outcomes. You will conduct in-depth design reviews, guide junior robotic engineers, and apply a data-driven approach to understand complex system interactions. The role requires hands-on experience with both software and hardware, a systems-level mindset, and a commitment to high-quality work. Based in Santa Clara, California, with up to 10% travel, joining a team working on advanced robotic platforms (MONARCH, OTTAVA) to advance medical robotics.
Required Qualifications
- BS in a technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, EE, ME, or equivalent) plus 6 years post‐academic experience
- MS in a technical discipline plus 4 years post‐academic experience
- PhD in a technical discipline plus 0‐2 years post‐academic experience
- PhD in Robotics highly desired
- Proven experience on robotics or complex electromechanical systems
- Experience with safety-critical electromechanical devices preferred
- Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, and/or C++
- Experience applying data-driven scientific approaches to R&D engineering
- Knowledge in soft robotics / tendon driven devices preferred
- Experience with multi-arm redundant kinematic chain workspace analysis preferred
- Experience with real-time control systems (e.g., RTLinux, QNX, xPCTarget, LabVIEW RealTime) preferred
- Ability and willingness to be based in Santa Clara, CA
- Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international)
