Senior Roadway Engineer

Job Summary

Conduct roadway, transportation, and infrastructure design and project management services for state DOTs, Metropolitan Council, county, and municipal clients throughout Minnesota and across the United States. Lead or assist with preparation of plan drawings, specifications, design documentation reports, bid quantities, and construction cost estimates while managing project budgets and schedules. Collaborate with professionals across multiple disciplines to deliver successful projects, develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges, and mentor early-career engineers. Perform engineering assignments requiring critical thinking, conduct occasional site visits to verify field conditions, and coordinate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, documentation requirements, and quality standards while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant post-graduate engineering experience, including roadway or civil infrastructure design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota, or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire
  • Strong commitment to collaboration and active participation in WSP's culture and values
  • Demonstrated knowledge of roadway engineering principles, practices, and design standards related to transportation and infrastructure projects
  • Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction support, including both rehabilitation and new construction projects
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated project management experience on small- to mid-sized projects
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently while providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior staff, with a strong commitment to quality assurance and quality control procedures
  • Proficiency with engineering and office software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work schedules that may occasionally extend beyond a standard workweek to meet project demands
  • Willingness to travel occasionally based on project needs

Desired Qualifications

  • Field experience related to civil or transportation construction
  • Experience delivering roadway design and project management services for Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), county, or municipal transportation projects
  • Familiarity with Minnesota State Aid and local agency design standards
  • Experience serving as a task manager, deputy project manager, or project manager on transportation infrastructure projects
