Job Summary
Senior Road Engineer to join WSP's Roads team in Birmingham. Role involves supporting highway designs across project lifecycles, ensuring delivery within budget, programme, and technical standards; mentoring junior staff; contributing to the team’s knowledge base; supporting Project Managers with planning, cost estimation, and proposals; checking and certifying designs and reports; coordinating engineering resources; collaborating with clients and stakeholders; and providing ad hoc site supervision to ensure works align with Works Information. Desired qualifications include a Civil Engineering degree, progression toward IEng/CEng, knowledge of highway design and drainage, familiarity with design codes, and proficiency in software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, and/or PDS. Regulatory awareness (CDM) and the ability to manage change are also highlighted.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role
- Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute (advantageous)
- Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems
- Knowledge of design codes (e.g., Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD)
- Experience with software: Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS
- Ability to manage change, communicate impacts on programme, cost and quality
- Experience of Designers Duties under CDM regulations
- Mentoring and guiding junior staff
- Coordination of resources and multi-disciplinary projects
- Site supervision and contract compliance checks
