Job Summary
Senior Retirement Plan Consultant provides primary consulting and relationship management for a portfolio of defined contribution retirement plans (e.g., 401(k), profit sharing), overseeing compliance testing, plan design advice, and client service with minimal supervision. The role requires strong ERISA/IRC knowledge, ability to manage complex plan administration, and effective communication with clients, advisors, recordkeepers, and internal staff. Responsibilities include client meetings, coordination with service providers, census/eligibility tracking, Form 5500 filings, year-end valuation and trust reconciliations, plan terminations or conversions, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Proficiency with FTWilliam, PensionPro, and Excel is expected; ASPPA credentials and a relevant 4-year degree are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in retirement plan administration and consulting with a focus on defined contribution plans
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code qualification requirements applicable to 401(k) and profit sharing plans
- Experience with compliance testing, Form 5500 preparation/review, and plan operational consulting
- Ability to independently manage a client caseload and multiple deadlines
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with retirement plan administration and case management software, namely FTWilliam, PensionPro, and Microsoft Excel
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, mathematics, or related field (preferred)
- ASPPA credentials such as QKA, QKC, QPA, CPC, or similar professional designation (preferred)
- Experience with plan corrections and complex plan design matters (preferred)
- Experience with multiple recordkeeping platforms (preferred)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills (required)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
- Proficiency with FTWilliam, PensionPro, and Microsoft Excel (required)
