Job Summary
Senior Resident Fellow, Spacepower Studies leads and develops research areas on spacepower strategy, operational concepts, and technologies; provides executive leadership on Mitchell Institute strategy, priorities, and events; maintains relationships with external partners; drives spacepower research to impact strategy, policy, and budget outcomes. Responsibilities include overseeing 65% research initiatives, providing strategic input, drafting reports and briefs, publishing in journals and websites, engaging defense officials and Congress, and supporting enterprise cooperation; 25% business development to grow program portfolio; 5% event support and execution; 5% other duties. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 10+ years in the national security space, and extensive relationship-building at top government and industry levels. Preferred Master’s degree and Space Force/Air Force veteran status are noted. Proficiency in strategic planning, budgeting, leadership presence in hierarchical organizations, and strong written/oral communication is required; travel up to 5% is anticipated. Office based at Air & Space Forces Association HQ in Arlington, VA with standard office environment and travel to local offices and events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- 10 years minimum experience in national security community, with a focus on Spacepower strategy, operational concepts, tactics, and technologies
- Experience building and marinating relationships at the highest levels of government, private industry, and relevant research and policy organizations
