Job Summary
Senior Research Engineer/Advanced Engineering will drive technology initiatives in Magna’s Corporate R&D Advanced Body Domain, overseeing end-to-end PoT/PoC studies, ideation and roadmap development, and cross-functional collaboration with internal Magna groups, suppliers, and academia to advance body, exterior, seating, and mechatronics systems. Responsibilities include leading problem statements, value propositions, KPI development, and ensuring project documentation (DVP&R, D-FMEA, KPI) for IDP gates; collaborating with CAD Design Engineers to generate 2D/3D data; analyzing market trends and regulatory requirements to shape future product and process gaps; and continuously innovating to deliver technically and commercially viable solutions while maintaining safety and quality standards. The role requires a BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, 5+ years of relevant experience, and strong collaboration, analytical, and communication skills; a Master’s degree is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering; Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of recent experience as a Researcher/Technical Lead/Product or System Engineer in body/exterior/seating/mechatronics and their integration into various systems
- Experience with Teamcenter to review CAD, cut sections, and present (preferred)
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Experience leading R&D projects in body/exteriors/mechatronics integration
- Proficiency with CAD tools and Teamcenter
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to develop KPIs and perform PoT/PoC studies
- Experience with DVP&R, D-FMEA, and BOM management
