Senior Research Demand Analyst – LNG Short Term Analytics

Job Summary
Develop and maintain short and medium-term gas/LNG market forecasting models across Asian markets, covering demand, supply, trade, and market balances. Build sector-level demand forecasting capabilities for power, industrial, residential, and commercial sectors by incorporating weather, commodity prices, and macroeconomic indicators. Improve automation and scalability of modelling workflows to support more frequent and granular market updates while working with large datasets. Collaborate with regional analysts to validate forecasts, interpret model outputs, and contribute to publications and client presentations. Over time, evolve toward greater forecast ownership and direct client engagement. This role supports Wood Mackenzie's Intelligence Connected platform, leveraging proprietary data and AI to deliver interconnected market views.
Required Qualifications
- Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in quantitative analysis, forecasting, data science, energy markets, commodities, economics or related fields
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining forecasting or quantitative models
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into actionable insights
- Advanced Excel modelling capabilities
- Strong proficiency in Python or similar analytical programming languages
- Experience working with large datasets, databases and analytical workflows
- Knowledge of statistical forecasting techniques and quantitative modelling methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Energy Systems or a related discipline
Desired Qualifications
- Experience developing commodity demand forecasting models
- Experience in gas, LNG, power or broader energy markets
- Familiarity with SQL, Power Query, data visualisation tools and automated data workflows
- Understanding of how prices, weather, trade flows and macroeconomic factors influence commodity demand and market balances
- Proficiency in Mandarin or Japanese is an advantage
