Job Summary
Senior Research Associate in Soil & Crop Sciences at Texas A&M AgriLife. Responsibilities include designing, planning, and coordinating field preparation, planting, cultivation, and harvesting operations; determining pesticide and fertilizer needs and application programs; evaluating and applying standard research techniques with meticulous data recording from field experiments; supervising undergraduate students during field operations; installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing agricultural equipment (tractors, planters, cultivators, harvesters, irrigation systems); and performing other duties as assigned. Required knowledge includes crop production practices, laboratory/technical equipment, and the ability to use computer software to manage databases and perform statistical analyses. Preferred skills include field research with cotton/row crops, equipment maintenance, irrigation design/management, GPS/precision agriculture, and supervisory experience with student workers. Additional requirements include ability to work under adverse outdoor conditions, lift heavy objects (>50 lbs), and willingness to pursue pesticide licensing if not already held.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Science, or related field
- Four years of related professional experience
- Knowledge of crop production practices and agronomy principles
- Familiarity with laboratory/technical equipment
- Ability to utilize software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, and present data
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
- Pesticide application certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months of start date (Texas NCPS Pesticide Applicator License)
- Preferred: Field research experience with cotton or row crops; experience operating agricultural equipment; irrigation system design/management; GPS and precision agriculture experience; supervisory/training experience with student workers
