Job Summary
Senior Research Analyst / Research Leader role in RAND Europe focusing on defence and security in the Netherlands. Lead business development and delivery of defence/security projects in the Netherlands; build proposals, manage multi-method research, and represent RAND in public and media engagements. Requires strong Dutch and English language skills, in-depth understanding of the Dutch defence and security landscape (policy, strategy, capability development, acquisition, innovation, and technology), and a proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and grow an area of work with funders and collaborators. The role involves developing thought leadership, coordinating bid activity, expanding RAND Europe’s defence portfolio in the Netherlands, and ensuring research impact within policy communities and wider audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent command of Dutch and English (spoken and written)
- Ability to lead research projects, develop business, lead proposals and represent RAND in public and media engagements
- Proven expertise in Dutch defence and security landscape (defence policy, strategy, capability development, acquisition, innovation, or related issues)
- Experience integrating multiple research and analysis methods as part of multi-method approaches
- Strong professional networks across defence, security, policy communities in the Netherlands and beyond
- Evidence of teamwork, mentoring, and developing colleagues for skills and career progression
- Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate with clients and varied audiences
- Strong project leadership/management experience including people management, stakeholder management and budgeting
- Willingness to obtain relevant national (Dutch) and NATO security clearance where required
- Established networks across Dutch government, academic and research institutions, armed forces, and relevant national/international organisations
- Commercially astute with ability to understand issues strategically and practically from multiple perspectives
- Networking skills to build relationships with funders and collaborators
- Hands-on, team-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines
- Willingness to travel
- Interest in training and people development initiatives
