Job Summary
Senior Reporter for Asia based in Kuala Lumpur to lead Malaysia coverage on diplomacy, security, politics, economics and culture for the Asia desk. Produce timely spot news, long reads and analyses for SCMP.com and This Week in Asia; collaborate across media platforms (including video and graphics); maintain a regional network of sources; develop original story ideas. Requires at least five years in a media organisation, familiarity with Malaysian politics and regional affairs, ability to cover multiple topics, strong critical thinking and reliable copy, and Chinese-language skills are a plus. Reports to the Asia Editor.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in a media organisation
- Familiarity with Malaysian news, especially politics, with a keen understanding of and interest in regional affairs
- A willingness to focus on several broad areas of coverage
- Strong critical thinking skills, solid news judgement and an ability to file clean copy
- Chinese-language skills or fluency in an Asian language would be a plus point
