Job Summary
Conduct testing, routine maintenance, and commissioning of transmission and distribution substation power equipment, relaying, pilot channel, controls, and communications systems. Interpret substation drawings, write procedures and test plans, and perform troubleshooting and repair of relaying and control equipment. Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently while providing technical support to field service personnel. Perform regular field work indoors and outdoors, adhering to client switching procedures and safety measures. Requires valid driver's license, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET university
- Associate or AET degree
- Degree with an emphasis on power systems
- Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
- Valid Driver's license
- Good driving record
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (inclusive of reading and writing)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in substation design (including protection & control engineering)
- Experience in substation construction
- Experience in substation commissioning
- Experience with SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
- Experience with 3 phase power systems
- Experience with power system protection & control schemes
- Experience with test equipment
- Experience with test equipment software
- Experience with test equipment and toll/wiring usage
- Experience with interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams
- Basic test skills to perform duties listed above
- Basic PC skills
- Quickly learn and apply test procedure for various types of substation equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, tailoring communication for audience and situation
- Ability to learn and apply client's switching procedures and safety measures as required
- Strong interpersonal skills
