Senior RAPA Data Engineer

Job Summary

Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data architecture, scalable pipelines, and cloud platforms supporting NPCC's business objectives. Build and optimize automated ELT/ETL processes using Fivetran, dbt, and Snowflake to integrate data from internal departments and external industry sources like NERC applications and ISOs. Develop semantic models, Power BI dashboards, and analytical datasets for executive decision-making and regulatory reporting. Establish data governance standards, metadata management, and automated quality validation to ensure data integrity. Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions and evaluate emerging technologies for architecture improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, database development, enterprise data architecture, cloud data platforms, business intelligence, or analytics engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale data platforms and automated data integration solutions.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, Python, relational databases, and cloud-based data warehouse technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining ELT/ETL pipelines utilizing modern integration tools and cloud technologies.
  • Experience developing enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions using Power BI or similar platforms.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, ability to communicate verbally, and in writing, and ability to handle long periods of screen time.
  • Ability to work and travel within the U.S. and travel to Canada.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience within the electric utility, electric reliability, transmission, generation, or energy industry.
  • Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards, Regional Entity functions, and electric system operations.
  • Experience with modern cloud technologies including Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, dbt, and Fivetran.
  • Experience with REST APIs, Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and data automation frameworks.
  • Experience developing enterprise data governance programs, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and predictive analytics technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Self-starter with the ability to contribute to multiple priorities, multitask effectively, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
