Job Summary
Lead strategic political engagement with MPs, peers, advisers, and government departments to shape and communicate Southern Water’s public affairs priorities. Advise the executive team with trusted political counsel, briefings and talking points for the CEO and senior leaders, and ensure joined-up engagement across national, regional and local government. Drive high‐quality political intelligence, sense‐check outputs, and issue management while mentoring the Public Affairs team. Collaborate across Strategy, Regulation, Communications, Customer and Operations to build a cohesive narrative and manage politically sensitive risks in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience in public affairs, political engagement or a related role, either in-house or agency
- A strong understanding of the UK political system and how organisations influence policy and decision-makers
- A demonstrable track record of managing senior political relationships and advising senior leaders
- Experience operating confidently in politically sensitive, fast-paced environments
- Strong judgement with the ability to balance risk, reputation and delivery
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and persuasively
