Senior Protection and Control Design Engineer

Job Summary
Prepare Protection & Control engineering designs for HV/EHV substations, developing Single Line Diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings. Design relay, control, annunciation, metering, and RTU/SCADA interfaces while performing protection coordination and reviewing vendor drawings. Prepare engineering calculations for cable sizing and battery sizing, then coordinate with Civil, Telecom, and SCADA teams. Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and technical issue resolution to ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and client standards. Deliver complete engineering packages in multidisciplinary environments while meeting quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in HV/EHV Substation Protection & Control Design
- Knowledge of protection schemes for Transmission and Distribution substations
- Experience with protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, or SEL
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Ability to independently deliver complete Protection & Control engineering packages
- Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments
- Experience in UK, Middle East, Europe, or international utility projects
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation automation systems
- Familiarity with SCADA, RTU, SAS, and communication protocols
