Job Summary
Model and design converter components and assemblies using 3D CAD software, then perform thermal, structural, and assembly analyses to optimize designs. Solve complex packaging issues involving thermal management, electrical isolation, and electromagnetic interference while assisting in prototype builds and fabricating test jigs. Run validation tests, analyze lab data, and investigate root causes of failures to implement product improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance designs from concept to production. This role supports Joby's final stages of FAA certification and commercial service launch for its piloted air taxi.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering
- 3-5+ years of demonstrated engineering experience
- Proficiency with professional 3D modeling software
- Proficiency in mechanical design
- Proficiency in materials selection
- Proficiency in kinematics
- Proficiency in troubleshooting
- Proficiency in analysis
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong analytical background
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. in mechanical engineering
- 8+ years of Aviation or Automotive industry experience
- Experience with finite element simulation tools
- Experience with electric powertrains or other electromechanical systems
- Strong fundamentals in fluid flow
- Strong fundamentals in thermals
- Strong fundamentals in structures
- Experience with instrumentation selection/procurement and data acquisition
