Job Summary
Senior Property Accountant responsible for strategic financial partnership to Leasing and Property Management teams, leading monthly financial close, variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring financial integrity across a multi-property portfolio. Partner with Head of Asset Management to deliver actionable insights, drive performance, and support leasing strategies, capital investments, and operational improvements. Primary duties include preparing journal entries and reconciliations, managing fixed assets and amortizations, reviewing sub-ledgers, intercompany reconciliations, year-end activities, HST/CRA filings, and tenant AR. The role emphasizes strong financial reporting, ability to translate data into business-focused insights for non-finance stakeholders, and a proactive, detail-oriented approach to internal controls and governance. Experience with multi-entity environments, external audits, and ERP/accounting systems (preferably Yardi) is favorable.
Required Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation completed or near completion
- Working knowledge of ASPE financial reporting
- Understanding of Residential Tenancies Act, residential and commercial leases, CAMs
- Hands-on month-end close experience, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Strong balance sheet ownership and account reconciliation discipline
- Experience in multi-entity environments with intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Exposure to external audits and tax filings (coordination with external accountants/tax advisors)
- Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, structured worksheets)
- Experience with Yardi or similar ERP/accounting systems is an asset
- Ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders
- Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and initiative across assigned areas
- Collaborative, team-oriented communication style; comfortable working cross-functionally
