Job Summary
Senior Product Manager at Umba leading AI-native product strategy across Lending, Savings & Deposits, FX, and upcoming Trade Finance. Owns the roadmap, runs customer discovery with freelancers/SMEs/individual borrowers, prioritizes hypotheses, and translates AI-enabled specs into working software. Responsibilities include writing product and technical specifications for engineers and AI agents, prototyping with Claude Design, shipping small PRs with Claude Code, coordinating with CEO and cross-functional teams (Engineering, Data, Credit, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Marketing), driving end-to-end delivery in Linear, and tying initiatives to revenue, growth, or risk metrics. Must be proficient with AI tools in daily workflows, comfortable reading production data (SQL), and capable of shaping credit and deposit strategies. Preferred: experience with credit products, FX, cross-border payments, and prior work in emerging markets, especially Africa, SEA, or LATAM fintech. Applicants should submit salary expectations in Kenyan Shillings and a note describing an end-to-end AI-built project, with valid Kenyan work authorization; in-office Nairobi.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in product management
- Direct experience shipping consumer or SME products in fintech, banking, or lending
- Track record of owning outcomes (revenue, active users, default rate, deposit growth)
- Strong stakeholder coordination
- Strong written communication
- SQL fluency or willingness to learn in week one
- Experience with AI tools in daily workflow (Claude Code, Claude Design, Codex)
- Ability to read and write code enough to ship a small PR with Claude Code
- High agency with end-to-end ownership
- Ability to read CBK/CBN guidance and translate to product requirements
