Senior Product Development Chemist

Job Summary

Lead the formulation and development of grouts, resins, mortars, and admixtures by designing structured laboratory, field, and validation programs. Drive product innovation through competitive benchmarking, scale-up activities, and manufacturing plant trials while investigating technical issues to develop customer-focused solutions. Evaluate alternative raw materials and suppliers, then present technical recommendations and project outcomes to stakeholders. Mentor laboratory and technical team members while contributing to strategic product planning and innovation roadmaps. Ensure all work adheres to AS 1478, AS 1012, WHS, and ISO 17025 standards. Work closely with Technical Sales, Product Management, and Operations to translate market needs into industry-leading products.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree qualifications in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in formulation development within construction chemicals or related specialty chemical industries
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: Cementitious grouts and mortars, Epoxy and polyurethane resins, Concrete admixtures, Concrete repair and protection systems, Specialty coatings or polymer-based formulations
  • Strong understanding of raw material functionality, formulation design and product performance optimisation
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A track record of technical problem-solving and innovation delivery
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team that values safety, quality, and innovation
  • Curious, solutions-focused mindset
  • Ability to influence product strategy, drive innovation, and provide technical leadership
  • Ability to develop robust, commercially viable formulations
  • Ability to translate customer and market needs into industry-leading products
  • Ability to lead scale-up activities and support manufacturing and plant trials
  • Ability to evaluate and qualify alternative raw materials and suppliers
  • Ability to present technical recommendations and project outcomes to key stakeholders
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to laboratory and technical team members
  • Ability to design and deliver lab trials, testing programs, and performance monitoring in line with AS 1478, AS 1012, and other relevant standards
  • Ability to ensure all work meets WHS, ISO 17025, and Australian Standards requirements
