Senior / Principal Traffic Signals Engineer

Job Summary
Lead day-to-day technical delivery of highway consultancy services for traffic signal design, coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs and working with clients to manage expectations. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring junior engineers, leading the delivery of design packages (including drawings, construction details, controller configurations, MOVA datasets, FAT/SAT), preparing fee proposals and project budgets, ensuring health & safety/environmental compliance, and supporting project lifecycle activities from feasibility through post-commissioning. Strong technical capability in traffic signal design, contract administration, and software tools (LinSig, TR2500, SCOOT, MOVA, Civils 3D, KeySignals) plus excellent stakeholder management and the ability to lead design teams across local and national projects.
Required Qualifications
- Senior or Principal Traffic Signals Engineer with experience across the project life-cycle from feasibility to post-commissioning support
- Experience in traffic signal design using LinSig, TR2500 controller configurations, SCOOT and MOVA design/validation (advantageous)
- Experience leading one or more design disciplines in road, public transport, active travel, or related development projects
- Contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision experience using Public Works Contracts
- Ability to use and validate design outputs in software such as Autodesk Civils 3D and KeySignals
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; client-facing experience
- Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status is advantageous
- Understanding of relevant design codes (DMRB, Manual for Streets, TSRGD) and preparation of drawings for contract documentation and approvals
- Experience with Designers Duties under CDM regulations
